Returning your Unit Grades:
How
to Do It
[Appendix 1]
The following Grades have been approved by Senate for
use from 2001.
Grade HD (High Distinction)
denotes performance which meets all unit objectives
in such an exceptional way and with such marked excellence that it deserves
the highest level of recognition.
Grade D (Distinction)
denotes performance which clearly deserves a very high level of recognition
as an excellent achievement in the unit.
Grade Cr (Credit) denotes
performance which is substantially better than would normally be expected
of competent students in the unit.
Grade P (Pass) denotes
performance which satisfies unit objectives.
Grade PC (Conceded Pass)
denotes performance which meets unit objectives only marginally. [Not used
for postgraduate units]
Grade F (Fail) denotes
that a candidate has failed to complete a unit satisfactorily.
[Grade FW]
denotes that a student has formally withdrawn or been excluded from a unit
subsequent to the closing date for withdrawal without penalty. This
grade should not be awarded when determining examination results.
Grade FA denotes
that a student has failed to present for a formal examination.
Grade IS denotes that
a student who has failed to present for an examination is subsequently
granted a Special Examination on the basis of documentary evidence.
Grade I denotes that a student has been granted permission - on the basis of documentary evidence - to submit assignments after the closing date.
Grade IA denotes that grading in the unit is incomplete and will be resolved by the University.
[Grade W]
denotes that a student has been granted permission - on the basis of
documentary evidence - to withdraw from a unit without penalty. This
grade should not be awarded when determining examination results, without
consulting a member of our Undergraduate Studies Committee.
[Grade NE]
this grade is awarded by the Registrar and Vice-Principal only where a
student withdraws from a unit within the first four weeks or is subsequently
deemed not have participated in the course. This grade should not be
awarded when determining examination results.
