Danny Long

Research interests: language contact and natural language acquisition, particularly in isolated island communities - recently seeking ways to incorporate linguistic research results into local junior high school curriculum, as well as ways to develop local language varieties into "cultural eco-tourism" resources

Fieldwork experience: (the following island communities in Japan) the "Westerners" of the Ogasawara (Bonin) Islands, Standard Japanese and traditional dialect contact on Amami-Oshima, Hachijo and Okinawan dialects in contact on Minami Daito-jima, the Taiwanese community on Ishigaki; Saipan, Tinian (researching the Japanese spoken by elderly islanders).
